A focused professional in a minimalist setting reflectives expertise

One of the biggest mistakes I see founders make is believing people carefully read every section of their LinkedIn profile.

They don’t.

Most people land on your profile with a question already in mind.

“Is this someone I should know?”

Within seconds, they’ve already started making decisions.

Do I understand what this person does?

Do they look credible?

Should I keep reading?

Should I connect?

Those first impressions matter more than many founders realize. Once someone is confused, it’s hard to win their attention back.

That’s why I never think of LinkedIn as an online résumé.

I see it as the front door to your business.

The three questions every profile should answer

Whenever I review a founder’s profile, I try to forget everything I already know about them.

Instead, I look at it through the eyes of someone who has never heard of them before.

Within a few seconds, I should be able to answer three questions.

Who are you?

Who do you help?

Why should I trust you?

If I have to scroll through your experience, read five posts, or guess what your company actually does, your profile is asking visitors to work too hard.

People don’t want to solve a mystery.

They want clarity.

Every section should tell the same story

A profile isn’t a collection of separate pieces.

It’s one story told in different ways.

Your profile photo creates the first impression.

Your banner gives people context.

Your headline explains your value.

Your About section adds personality and expertise.

Your Featured section backs everything up with proof.

When those pieces all support the same message, people understand you faster and remember you longer.

Proof is stronger than promises

Almost anyone can write, “I’m an expert.”

That doesn’t make people believe it.

Evidence does.

Media features.

Client results.

Articles you’ve written.

Speaking engagements.

Testimonials.

The companies you’ve worked with.

Every piece of proof quietly answers the question people are already asking.

“Why should I trust you?”

The more evidence you provide, the less convincing you have to do later.

Your profile should create the next conversation

One thing I often remind founders is that your profile doesn’t have to tell your entire story.

It simply needs to make someone curious enough to take the next step.

That might be following your content.

Sending you a connection request.

Booking a Brand Clarity Call.

Or remembering your name when the right opportunity comes along.

That’s all a great profile needs to do.

Your profile is working even when you aren’t

This is one of the reasons I care so much about LinkedIn.

I don’t see it as another social platform.

I see it as a business asset.

It introduces you before meetings.

It answers questions before sales calls.

It builds trust while you’re focused on other things.

Every post you publish eventually leads people back to your profile.

If your profile creates confusion, all the effort you put into creating content becomes less effective.

Content gets people to your profile.

Your profile decides whether they stay.

And sometimes, those first three seconds are all you get.

P.S. Every piece of content eventually sends people back to your profile. Make sure what they find matches the expertise you've spent years building.
