A focused professional in a minimalist setting reflectives expertise

When we hear the word “heritage,” we think of old things:

  • A family business in Italy.

  • A watchmaker in Switzerland.

  • A hotel that has been welcoming guests for generations.

  • Or a luxury brand reminding us they’ve been around since 1850.

But I went down a rabbit hole this week and found something much more interesting. UNESCO uses the term “living heritage” for knowledge, skills and practices that are actively carried forward. Business Heritage doesn’t have to sit in an archive. It can be alive. This made me think about the people I work with.

A few days ago, I spoke to a founder with more than 20 years in business.

She told me about the clients who stayed, the mistakes that changed the way she worked, and the things she knows today that nobody could have taught her 20 years ago. Then I looked at her website.

I could see what she did.

I couldn’t see what 20 years had given her.

We put services on the website.

We add the years of experience to the About page.

We write “founded in 2004.” And somehow, 20 years of knowledge gets reduced to a date.

History tells me what happened. Heritage is what you carry forward from it.

It’s the standard you refuse to lower.

The detail you notice that someone newer might miss.

The decision you make in five minutes because you’ve made some version of it 100 times before.

Luxury brands have understood this for a long time. They bring their past forward. A technique, a story, a way of doing things. The past gives the present more meaning. Your heritage may already be one of the most interesting parts of your brand. You may simply have stopped noticing it.

This is where my work comes in.

I help people uncover the stories, experiences, points of view, and reputation they’ve built over the years and express them online so people can finally see the depth behind what they do. Your heritage deserves more than a founding date on an About page.

If you’ve built something over the years but feel your online presence barely scratches the surface, hit reply. Let’s talk about how to make sure people can see what you know and what you carry forward.

P.S. If someone took over your business tomorrow, what is the one thing you would want them to understand that they could never learn from your website? Hit reply and tell me. I’d love to hear it.

With love, Sandra
